Before You Ride
Get a SmarTrip Card
Pick one up at any station kiosk ($2 card fee). Reloadable, cheaper per trip than single-use paper tickets, and works on Metro, Metrobus, and the DC Circulator.
Fares & Hours
Base fare from $2.25. Peak hours (Mon–Fri 5–9:30am and 3–7pm) cost more and vary by distance. Metro runs 5am–midnight weekdays, until 1am Fri–Sat nights.
Airports
Silver line to Dulles (IAD) — 60–75 min from downtown. Blue/Yellow line to Reagan National (DCA) — 20 min from Metro Center. BWI: take MARC Penn Line or a shuttle from New Carrollton.
